A first time BJP MP from Nawada, Bihar Giriraj Singh shot to fame last year during the run-up to the General Election when he had declared that the Modi critics would find themselves across the border after the 2014 election. Mr. Narendra Modi is now the most popular prime minister of India. Regardless of his larger-than-life popularity, Mr. Modi’s critics not only criticise him but they also continue to live in India.

Back then the mainstream media infamous for its visceral hatred for Mr. Narendra Modi had played up this remark of Giriraj Singh to the hilt to prove that the future for the minorities was going to be scary if Mr. Modi came to power. The Modi-led NDA Government is on the cusp of completing one glorious year in the office. Sadly, for media its prophecy of apocalypse is yet to come true. This is mainly because people of India continue to live as amicably and peacefully as ever.

So much for scaremongering.

Having said this, today Giriraj Singh who is now a Union minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises in the Modi-led NDA Government  is back in the news. This time around he finds himself in a controversy for calling the Congress president Sonia Gandhi white-skinned. In Hajipur, Giriraj Singh asked an innocent question that has earned him the wrath of the senior Congress leaders, mainstream media, the Nigerian High Commissioner based in India and the Gandhi sycophants (not necessarily in the same order).

Poor Giriraj Singh’s crime is he has told the bitter truth. If the late Rajiv Gandhi had married a Nigerian woman, would Congress have accepted her as its chief after Rajiv Gandhi’s death? Just because she is a white woman, she has been able to retain her iron like hold on the party that is dying a slow and painful death.

We all know this for a fact that Sonia Gandhi’s skin colour has played an important role in her political journey thanks to the deshi fascination for gori chamadi.  The mainstream media has, as usual, termed this remark as sexist and racist. The Congress leaders have left no stone unturned to slam Giriraj Singh who has soon shown both the courage and grace to express regret over his ill-fated remark if they have caused hurt to the Madam Sonia Gandhi or her son Rahul Gandhi.

But the Congress Party would like to have none of it. It wants the prime minister himself to apologise for his colleague’s remark for which the regret has already been expressed. There’s no doubt that the mainstream media has smelt blood and the controversy is likely to receive a fresh lease of life much to the chagrin of Giriraj Singh who is being made the fall guy once again.

Did what Giriraj Singh say is wrong? Did he cross the line in uttering the bitter truth no matter how grave the provocation was? Should the prime minister offer an apology and show Giriraj Singh the door? These and many more questions are likely to dominate the TV debates until new controversy pops up.

Be that as it may, political leaders cannot speak the politically correct things all the time especially when they happen to be surrounded by their cheering supporters. Sonia Gandhi’s maut ke saudagar remark is still fresh in the collective memory of the nation. The SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had raised many eyebrows over his rape remark stating that boys will always be boys. The NCP leader Ajit Singh’s urinating into dams remark is the best example of how political leaders tend to go overboard when the supporters are lustily cheering at every word uttered by their leaders.

But none of the above mentioned leaders has come under the same harsh scrutiny as poor Giriraj Singh. These leaders have pure secular credentials. They don’t pose any threat to the idea of India and they don’t divide the societies along the religious lines to win elections. This is the narrative that mainstream media gleefully offers to defend leaders of its choice every time they pass sexist, racist, anti-women and misogynist remarks.

Whereas Giriraj Singh deserves no mercy from the kangaroo courts run by the mainstream media and pronounced guilty ad nauseaum until proven innocent because he is from the BJP and represents Mr. Narendra Modi. This twisted narrative has got stuck in a serious time warp but the mainstream media has failed to read the writing on the wall.

Giriraj Singh may not get the clean chit from the biased mainstream media who loves to sing the hosannas of Madam Sonia. But the common man can clearly see through the mainstream media’s game-plan to target Mr. Modi’s Ministers to sully the image of his government that is winning more and more people’s confidence with each passing day. This is precisely why Giriraj Singh has received a clean chit from the common man without betting an eyelid.

Mainstream media will do well to stop playing the racist and anti-women cards every time Madam Sonia is under the line of fire because these cards have no takers now especially when the nation is headed in the direction of development, unity and communal harmony.

Honourable President Shri Pranab Mukherjee,

Please accept my sincere apology for taking a few minutes of your valuable time for the matter that is yet to concern you as of now. I know that you are still trying to feel at home amidst your new palatial surroundings. Moreover, there is a lot of pending work to do. But I, as a layman, request you to take out only a few minutes to read this letter which may serve as a reference point some time in future.

To tell you the truth, after a long time our country has got something to rejoice about. No, no, please do not misunderstand me. I am not talking about under-19 cricket team becoming the world champion by winning the world cup. In fact, I am talking about the Supreme Court’s verdict upholding the death penalty awarded to the lone surviving terrorist Kasab.

All the patriotic citizens of India are celebrating this verdict. Everybody is now relieved. The law has finally taken its course. The wheels of justice have come a full circle for Kasab and company for having waged war against our beloved country.

Our independent judiciary has delivered. Right from the lion-hearted policeman Tukaram Ombale who nabbed Kasab alive by risking his life to all the jail officials to all the public prosecutors and the judges deserve to be applauded and rewarded handsomely for ensuring that the justice is delivered. The families of the victims too must have heaved a sigh of relief.

The verdict must have sent a shiver down the spines of those who are secretly harbouring ambitions of waging war against India. The speedy execution of the verdict will forever seal India’s image as a soft state. Having said that the real test begins now.

As you are aware that amongst our political class there is a tendency to polarize society along the caste and religious lines to win votes. These folks have been playing one community against another since Independence. The country too has been suffering great losses in terms of everything on account of this short-sightedness. The fear is that some vested interests will try and play a bloody game by giving this verdict some political colour keeping the upcoming elections in mind.

My humble request to you is as the President of India, please do not allow this nonsense to happen. If and when the mercy plea of Kasab comes to you, without betting an eyelid please throw it out for this beast deserves no mercy. He has killed the innocents. He has shed the blood of those strangers who had never done any harm to him. The deadly bullets that left his automatic machine gun were meant to kill the human beings irrespective of their caste, creed and above all religion.

Does such a terrorist deserve any mercy? No, right? Instead he deserves to be sent straight to the gallows without any further delay. In fact, he has overstayed his welcome. He has eaten enough plates of Biriyani. He has watched enough Hindi films. He has hurt the pride of this country enough. Most importantly, he has murdered enough sons of this soil. Please spare no thoughts for such a terrorist. He is neither a human being nor he belongs to any religion. He is a death machine whose sole job is to snuff out the precious lives given by god.

Sir, you are the statesman of impeccable integrity. Your commitment to democracy and the esteemed post you are holding is beyond reproach. You know the impact of the mindless bloodbath. Being the honourable man you are, please do not let your countrymen down who are looking up to you to set an example by rising above petty opportunism to deny a victory to this country.

Thanking you for your patient reading.

Regards,

An Indian.

This Congress-led UPA government led by the passive and ever silent Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has got an uncanny knack of shooting itself in the foot. Everything that this government touches is turning to ashes. Everything is falling apart with the government looking clueless and lacklustre. To make the matter worse, its inability to provide good governance has reached legendary proportions.

The writing has been clearly written on the wall for quite some time now. But the final nail in the coffin came recently when the government, in an ill-advised move, decided to clamp down on the bulk smses and social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter by asking them to remove objectionable contents and block the handles of those spreading hate massages by sharing and circulating widely the morphed images. This directive came in the wake of the exodus of North-East people from cities like Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad that caught everybody unawares and the blame for which fell upon the technology.

The gaffe-prone government sat on the dynamite by blocking the Twitter handles of those accused of spreading unrest and thereby posing a security threat to the country. Obviously this move didn’t go down well and within minutes the massive online protest hit the already beleaguered government like a tornado. Every twitterrati started throwing open challenges to the government to block his/her Twitter handle. The online protesters replaced their DPs with black flags even as the hash-tag #GOIBlocks trended unabated for over forty-eight hours.

Instead of learning any lessons the government spokespersons huffed and puffed to deny any such move although it soon became clear that Twitter was under pressure to suspend six handles impersonating the PM or PMO. By doing so this government has proved beyond an iota of doubt that it will not take any dissenting voices emanating from Twitter and mushrooming elsewhere online lightly. The PM can continue to observe his sacred vow of silence even as the riots break out killing the innocents and rendering countless homeless, the economic growth declines steadily, scams after scams tumble out of the closet and the scenario of gloom and doom prevails.

The satire is one of the most potent weapons a common man has at his disposal. Even with the help of popular satire one can register protest against the unpopular government decisions and policies or public figures. In a democratic set-up the dissent expressed through satire is widely accepted as long as it retains the decorum.

As if blocking these parody handles were not enough, the handles of certain respected and well-known journalists were also added to the blocked list. Soon it was apparent that the jittery government was in no mood to spare those expressing disagreement over any of its policies or style of functioning.

What followed was a lot of outrage and the solidarity expressed with those whose Twitter handles were blocked. Sensing danger in the air, the red-faced government lifted its roundly criticized clamp down but not before huge damage was done to its credibility.

Now many fear that the powers that be are so desperate that if they lose the mandate to rule, they won’t mind imposing Emergency. The attempts to censor the Internet were a trial run for the real thing that seems to be in store.

All the recent unfortunate developments lead the political observers to believe that all this brouhaha was both ill-timed and unwarranted. Where this government should have been seen as taking stern actions against rumour mongers, it indulged in the attempts to mess around with the citizens’ right to freedom of speech.

It is really unfortunate to note that the government has slipped into a state of permanent decay for which instead of addressing the root-cause, it is hankering after the symptomatic relief by dragging its feet on the sensitive issue like Internet censorship.

Blame it on Pakistan is the name of a quick fix formula used to sweep under the carpet misdeeds done by home-grown mischief makers belonging to the minority community. This ploy comes in handy especially when the elections are lurking round the corner and the eyes are on the vote-bank politics. This warped approach has been in practice since time immemorial.

This practice is at the very root of divisive politics that seems to have come of age now by sowing the seeds of communal hatred. Everybody agrees that the appeasement has come at a cost of alienation from the mainstream and overall development. The revolution can happen only with the help of education – the basic right of every child and when the awareness of this very basic right is compromised, what further can one expect?

If the Muslim youths are found guilty of inciting communal hatred, why adopt a soft approach? The law is equal for every citizen irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Then why turn a blind eye and pretend the root cause of the problem is a foreign country? Why this alibi time and again? If the guilty who are responsible for causing mass exodus of the North East people studying and earning their daily livings in a perfectly peaceful manner belong to an XYZ community, punish them severely. Let the law deal with them in the strictest possible manner.

What will happen if the law takes its own course without any kind of political interference? Every citizen will have faith in the law of the land. Those wanting to indulge in a similar mischief making in future will get a strong message. Nobody will accuse any political parties of appeasing a community for their political gains. In future, the subsequent developments will create an overall atmosphere of goodwill which will be conducive to long lasting communal harmony and peace. And over a period of time the communal hatred will dissipate.

But going by the current mood, the political masters stand to gain from the communally charged atmosphere. The gain will be in terms of a few million votes. When the political ambitions are at stake, why bother about the massages of peace and brotherhood? How many takers will such an outdated message find? One can always spread such symbolic peace massages after winning the elections and forming the government.

If people don’t understand this macabre game plan now, it will be too late for the communal hatred is spreading far and wide. The need of the hour is to tell the-powers-that-be strongly to stop indulging in the politics of appeasement. Punish the guilty harshly. Let us, as a peace-loving people and the citizens of India, take pledge that we will never do the deeds that bring shame and malign the whole community. That we will always keep the safety, security and reputation of our beloved Bharat Mata in our hearts and minds. And that we will fight for her till the last drop of blood is drained out of our bodies.

When this message gets ingrained deeply and firmly in the minds, there won’t be the need of any appeasement whatsoever. The villainous and harmful game of “Blame-It-On-Pakistan” will come to a sudden halt. And we all will be able to live peacefully and contribute significantly to the prosperity of the nation.

Jai Hind.
