Chetan Bhagat – Success Unlimited

Posted on: August 10, 2012

Chetan Bhagat is a very nice human being, writer and a celebrity whose fame is a matter of endless debates. What’s with Chetan Bhagat and controversies? Does he manufacture controversies to stay in the limelight? Or do the controversies come knocking at his door at regular intervals?

Believe it or not Chetan Bhagat and controversies are as inseparable as water from milk. There are numerous critics out there who get their knickers in a twist the moment they hear the name of Chetan Bhagat. If it were up to them, they would have picked up a gun and pumped as many bullets into his head as the pages of his first novel to see what lies inside his thick skull.

His unprecedented success is the product of hard work or pure accident is something we all will have to wait until the guy pens down his tell all autobiography in the very style his detractors have come to hate so much. Having said that the fact remains that his fans certainly outnumber his detractors, and; this is precisely what makes Chetan Bhagat tick.

His novels are simple. His protagonists are like the people next door. His prose is devoid of the pretence of any grandeur. His protagonists mouth the sentences today’s youth can relate to. His motto is to entertain without charging much. When he tweets or speaks, he comes across as down to earth individual who is yet to come to terms with his phenomenal success.

Then what’s the problem? There are no PR guys working over time to make the brand Chetan Bhagat. If Chetan Bhagat is a brand as big as this, this brand building is effortless. His ability to reach out and connect with the masses has made him what he is today. It’s all about perfect timing. The guy is a genius. He appeared on the scene when there was a void. And since he was the first to appear, his fans accepted him with all his apparent follies and so-called lack of sophistication.

Let us stop raving and ranting about Chetan Bhagat. He grows only bigger the more we ridicule him. When Mr. Pritish Nandy, Mr. Shashi Tharoor and Mr. Rajdeep Sardesai call the much loved and equally hated Chetan Bhagat their friend, it is the reminder of the hope that anybody from the back of beyond can strike it big. And perhaps this explains the hysteria and outrage that follow Chetan Bhagat relentlessly wherever he goes.
